Thanks to Greta Thunberg, a 15-year-old student from Sweden, who captured the attention of the world when she shamed climate change negotiators at a United Nations climate summit in Poland in 2018. She inspired thousands of young people around the world to walk out of their schools on Fridays to demand adults take more action to protect their futures and those of future generations. She decided to walk out of her own school in Sweden by herself. No one joined her the first day. Then, she kept at it, inspiring thousands.
As many young people, we were also affected by her speech which emerged due to the ignorance of adults. We believe that it’s mandatory that we start by making people aware of how their actions impact the Earth. So, we are coming together to act. We can still prevent the worst impacts of climate change, and build a safer future for all.
Taking this important issue into consideration, we-young people from 4 different countries have come together and developed this project. The main goal of our project is to raise awareness among young people (between the ages of 16 and 25) about climate change and its impacts by understanding the risks and learning how to avoid them.
Our project objectives will mainly focus on;
*Raising awareness about climate change and its impacts
*Becoming more climate literate by expanding knowledge about climate change (e.g., its causes and consequences);
*Gaining skills to act against climate change and contribute to climate solutions;
*Being engaged in challenging, yet entertaining climate-based activities in youth exchange with young people from other European countries.
The Erasmus Program aims to support, across all sectors, awareness-raising about environmental and climate-change challenges. Therefore, this project will give priority to the environment and fight against climate change by developing competences of the youth to become true agents of change.
During our project we are implementing the following activities:
-a Preparatory visit in Poland for 2 working days with 1 youth/group leader from each partner organization (totally 5) to ensure the quality of the project during its implementation. It will give the partner organizations an opportunity to get to know each other and ensure that tasks and responsibilities are equal distributed.
-a Youth Exchange in Poland with a total of 28 participants (6 young people and 1 group leader from each country) from Poland, Estonia, Lithuania, Turkey. The program is spread over 5 days and includes formal and informal creative activities on climate change workshops and discussion, teambuilding, cultural activities, international night, workshops on European opportunities and so on.
