Agriculture has always been a big part of our lives and it will continue to be so as long as life continues. The source of life is agriculture and the source of agriculture is soil. A healthy soil is vital for all living things. As Prof. Dr. Uygun Aksoy stated, to protect the health of this priceless resource, which is the source of nutrition for humanity, it is necessary to raise awareness about soil and to explain the function and importance of healthy soil to all segments of society. In addition, our professor adds that soil should be taught to students from kindergarten to high school in formal education and should be included as a basic science discipline in universities. Prof. Dr. Uygun Aksoy worked as a faculty member and researcher at Ege University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Horticulture. She is one of the founding members of the Ecological Agriculture Organisation Association, former president (1999-2003), and Honorary President of ETO since 2010.
As the LOESS project team, we had a conversation with Prof. Dr. Aksoy about soil health awareness training in higher education in Türkiye, especially in agricultural faculties, and soil health awareness training provided within the scope of national, and international projects on soil health and agriculture carried out by civil society organizations. We would like to thank her very much for sharing her valuable knowledge with us.
