“Soil is the foundation of life. And our soil is in trouble, the fertile topsoil has become vulnerable to erosion as a result of plowing, being eroded and destroyed by water and winds, the bare soil is directly exposed to sunlight, and the remaining soil has lost its life as a result of over-spraying and fertilizing for years, the destruction of organic matter by burning stubble… All these are problems of a very large scale and depth”. These words belong to Mr Mehmet Karlı.
Mr Mehmet Karlı graduated from Agriculture High School. He studied economics, milling, and food engineering. Since 1980, he has been actively involved in agriculture. He is the President of the Preventive Agriculture Association. As the LOESS project team, we had a conversation with Mr. Mehmet Karlı about soil health awareness training in Türkiye and soil awareness training provided within the scope of local, national, and international projects on soil health and agriculture carried out by non-governmental organizations.
