Soil education gained strong visibility in classrooms during the 2026 STEM Discovery Campaign!
As part of the Scientix STEM Discovery Campaign, the LOESS project supported the Scientix Soil Guardians Award, encouraging teachers to develop creative learning scenarios and classroom practices focused on soil health. This year, more than 450 soil-related activities were submitted by teachers from across Europe and beyond. Among these inspiring entries, two projects were recognized for their originality and impact on students’ learning:
“Designing an Interdisciplinary Soil Education Learning Scenario for STEM Education.” Hayrullah Aslan – Türkiye
“Soil Stories of Chios Island: From Ashes to Mastic Gold.”
Despoina Armenaki, Kyriakoula Aivalioti, and Angela Geronteli – Greece
(For details about their learning scenarios, please visit the LOESS project webpage: https://loess-project.eu/learning-scenarios/ ).
We warmly congratulate all winning teachers for helping students explore soil, sustainability, and STEM through creative and meaningful learning experiences.
As LOESS Türkiye, we are very pleased to see soil education gaining such strong momentum in classrooms.
